In response to complaints from consumers who are put off by the accents of India, the Philippines, and other call center hubs around the globe, Dell will guarantee -- for a price -- that the person who picks up the phone on a support call will be, as company ads mention in bold text, "based in North America."
Now isn't this amazing! Dell wants me to pay for speaking to a North American and we live on the North American continent? I'm glad I don't have a Dell PC because I would never pay for this service. And I don't think for one minute that Dell customers will willingly pay extra to speak to someone who doesn't have an accent.
On the upside of this venture it'll bring back jobs to the United States and I think it's a great idea -- but it should be for free, or at least rolled into the price of your computer.
